Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College (erstwhile Government Degree College Bemina, Srinagar) was established in
1970, with academic activities commencing in 1972. Over the years, the institution has developed into one of the largest and most distinguished centres of higher education in the region. The College is situated on the
largest campus in the Union Territory, covering approximately
283 kanals. The campus comprises well-developed infrastructure, including blocks for Physical Sciences, Bio-Sciences, Commerce and Management Studies, administrative sections, hostels, a U-shaped lecture complex, and multiple academic blocks. In addition, several modern facilities funded under RUSA and PMDP, such as Classroom Blocks, the Administrative Block, and the Humanities Block, have further strengthened the institutional infrastructure. The College has experienced significant growth, with enrolment rising to over 3,000 students, thereby establishing itself as a prominent institution of academic excellence. The College is recognised by the
University Grants Commission (UGC) under Sections 2(f) and
12(B). It was initially affiliated with the University of Kashmir, Srinagar, and, since
2017, has been affiliated with Cluster University Srinagar. The institution offers a
lush, green, pollution-free and serene environment, providing an ideal setting for teaching, learning and research. In its continued pursuit of quality and excellence, the College was accredited by
NAAC with a B+ grade in 2004, and subsequently re-accredited with an
‘A’ grade in 2014, reflecting its sustained commitment to high academic standards and institutional development.  Academically, the institution offers
22 Four-Year Undergraduate programmes in Science, Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce and Management Studies, along with
Postgraduate programmes in Commerce, Management, Political Science, and History. Beyond academics, the College actively promotes
co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, including skill development programmes, and regularly organises
seminars, workshops, and conferences addressing contemporary social and academic issues.
